The American Statistical Association’s annual Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) gathered over 6,500 attendees from 52 countries in Washington, D.C. this year. Cytel welcomed the opportunity to share new research on Bayesian designs, while engaging with customers on a number of new software releases.
This year, Cytel hosted a trade floor booth led by Senior Customer Success Manager Alyssa Biller, Senior Director of Business Development Mark Levine, and Marketing Specialist Haley Hallenbeck offering demos of Solara, East, and East Bayes for potential clients, answering questions and discussing software options with current clients, and speaking with those interested in careers at Cytel. Overall, the team had the chance to meet with dozens of people, with Alyssa adding that, “The highlight of JSM for me was meeting many of my clients in person.”
In addition to hosting a booth, Cytel staff had the opportunity to present at and attend the various sessions organized by JSM.
Senior Biostatistician Mohsen Soltanifar, who presented the poster “Alone, Together: Bridging Empirical Bayes Meta-Analysis and Schoenfeld’s Augmented Bayesian Design,” highlighted the great turnout and opportunity to reach a large audience to promote Cytel’s work, mentioning the presentation time was extended by an extra hour to accommodate 30+ questions from interested audience members!
Giving her overall impression of the event, Associate Customer Experience Manager & Statistician Sheetal Solanki said:
“JSM is the place where we can see how academia and industry meet each other and exchange theory and real-life experiences. I was privileged to attend this year’s JSM after lockdown and it was a huge gain for me personally. I was able to meet with and listen to some well-known personalities in the statistics world like Prof. Martin Posch, Prof. Peter Thall, Prof. Yuan Ji, Keven Anderson, and many more. I mainly attended the sessions related to advanced adaptive and Bayesian designs. It really gave me new perspectives on clinical trial design and related challenges. Overall, I enjoyed many activities including oral and poster presentations, the exhibit hall, social activities, and networking opportunities at JSM.”
Kyle Wathen, VP of Scientific Strategy & Innovation, agreed, “While there were still some virtual sessions, the vast majority of it was in person and that was great to be part of again.”
